Discovery Launch

Discovery lifts off.
We got to do something really exciting today. We were able to watch NASA's live feed of the launch of Discovery. We started before lunch and were able to see the astronauts as they got out of their van before they rode the elevator up to the shuttle. Then, it was really interesting to watch the astronauts as they were strapped into their seats, a couple hours before the shuttle took off. We're not too sure that would be very much fun. It was really cool to be able to see this shuttle launch for the very last time. Our story in Reading this week has been about an astronaut, Ellen Ochoa, who was on missions that took supplies to the International Space Station, which is what the shuttle Discovery is also doing. The COOLEST thing? The shuttle is taking a robot to the ISS.

Valentine's Day

We had a WONDERFUL Valentine's Day. Everyone brought such clever and fun Valentine boxes.

Then we played a fun game. (Well--Miss Johnson thought it was fun--I'm not sure about everyone else)

Thank you to everyone who came to Read with their Sweethearts!

DNA & Genetics

We learned about DNA & Genetics. It was interesting to learn how traits are passed down from our parents and grandparents. We learned some traits that are dominant and recessive. Like blue eyes--which is a recessive trait, so it may skip a generation or to before a child will have blue eyes.
