Goodbye and Good Luck

Students,
   Thank you for making this year the most memorable school year I have had. We have learned so much this year and been able to many fun things. We have created memories that I will keep forever. Never before have I made a fool of myself dancing to the Wii in front of students, had such a great birthday party, or been showered with confetti. I will remember all the hard work each of you did this year, the awesome Revolution projects that you did, and the videos we made. You helped me figure out the Clickers and the MoBi---we figured it out together. It has been an AWESOME year and each and I will not forget you. My greatest wish for each of you is that you will continue to work hard in life, be the kind, thoughtful kids you are and that each one of you achieves your dreams. You have made an impact in my life.

Bubble Gum Blowing Contest

We have been working hard to earn little reward for our ISAT tests. We did great on our Reading test, so we got to have a bubble gum blowing contest. It was  alot of fun. Some of us couldn't blow bubbles and some of us blew HUGE bubbles!!!

BLAST OFF TO SUCCESS

Today we kicked of our ISAT testing. We had a teacher who had been chosen to participate in the teacher in space talk to us. She told us how we are just like the space shuttle--we have boosters to help us get into space, but then have everything we need and can go out into the stars alone. 

Then--we went outside and each class got to launch a rocket their teacher had made. Yes---we had the BEST rocket!!!!!!

Chemical or Physical Change?

We did a little testing of chemical and physical changes last week. We made SLIME!!

Wii Had a Great Time!!

We finally had our Wii party today. Most of you had to work really hard to get all your PLATO prescriptions finished, so you earned this party. I think everyonoe had a really good time.

Be a Bucket Filler

During the month of April, as a school, we are going to focus on developing kindness toward one another. In class we read the book, Have You Filled a Bucket Today? which talked about how each of us have a bucket and that when we do something kind for someone else, we are filling their bucket. When we fill others' buckets, we are happy also. We don't want to be a bucket dipper, which is when we take out of someone else's bucket by the mean things we say or do.

In our classroom, we are watching to see the kind things other people do. Then, the students are writing these acts on a small piece of paper which we are posting and then filling our big classroom bucket.

Remember, you want to be a bucket filler, not a bucket dipper.

Idiom Study--Happy Birthday Miss Johnson

   For the past couple of months, in the mornings before we go to prep, we have been learning new idioms. Just this week, the kids discovered I had some idiom dictionaries. They were looking through them and I heard Nicky so (with a question in his voice)--"no spring chicken." I asked him what that meant. But, he didn't really know, so I encouraged him to look up the definition. He quickly responded that "no spring chicken meant you weren't young." He very innocently looks at me and says, "So, Miss Johnson---you're no spring chicken." Well, I didn't really think that was very funny because---I'm REALLY not that old!!! We all had a good laugh though.
  So, fast forward to Friday. The kids had discovered that my birthday was during Spring Break and they had been conspiring with Miss Bonnie to surprise me for my birthday. Since I am such a wise person---I could tell that something was up, but I decided to let them have their fun.When I arrived at school Friday morning, I was flabbergasted at the state of my classroom. There were brightly colored balloons everywhere, and it looked like a confetti factory had exploded all over the floor. It brought a huge smile to my face. I could tell, this was going to be a really fun day. However, I wasn't prepared for just how much I would laugh the entire day.
   The boys were so excited, they could hardly contain themselves. They urged me to open my gift right away, which I was happy to do. But, to their dismay, their card they had so lovingly picked out, was not with the gift. Miss Bonnie must still have it (which she did and when I finally got to read---I had a good laugh). Just a word of caution though, I don't think people like it when you refer to their age in decades---that makes you feel REALLY old!!
   When Miss Bonnie arrived at school, the excitement level was raised even more, for with her, she brought THE CAKE.  I couldn't do anything else, by directive of the boys, I had to look at the cake RIGHT NOW!! Now, I have to say that I was very puzzled and had no idea what this cake would have on it. So, I opened it and laughed, and laughed and laughed. Because on the cake it said "Good-bye Spring Chicken."
   I will always remember this birthday for the delightful gifts and thought that went into everything that was planned and done. I doubt I will ever receive a cake that says these words again, nor will I be sung to over the school's intercom system. Guys---You made this teacher's day!!!!!!
